Justin Bell

Justin Bell (Coach Silver Squad - Centenary )

Justin commenced his swimming coaching career in 2009 at the Surrey Park Swimming Club in Victoria. He spent five years developing the junior swimmers through to compete at State and National Age level. Due to Justin’s commitment and efforts this program achieved podium medals at State level.

Moving to Rackley Swim Team in 2014, Justin now heads up the Silver Squad. Swimmers from this squad achieved success at Brisbane, Queensland and Australian Age Championships across the 2014 – 2017 seasons.

Justin’s philosophy is focused around producing the best technical and skilful age group athletes possible, so they have the best possible chance of being successful at an age group and open level. The program also incorporates quality drills and building a strong aerobic and anaerobic platform which are seen as essential for promotion to the Gold Squad. Justin also believes that building a strong relationship with his athletes based on mutual trust is a major factor in building a successful squad, club and overall culture.

Justin has a Silver Coaching license and also holds certificate III and IV in Fitness and Personal Training.

Mackenzie Speechley

Mackenzie Speechley (Coach Bronze , Junior & Adult Squads - Centenary)

Mackenzie has been involved with the swimming industry his whole life, first as a swimmer for 8 years and now as a bronze level coach for the past 6 years. Moving to Rackley Swim Team in 2015, Mackenzie heads up the Junior Development Program and assists with the National & State Squads.

Mackenzie understands that the role of Junior Development Coach is pivotal in the ‘Long Term Athlete Pathway’ for the Rackley Centenary Program. Educating young athletes on flawless technique, injury prevention, communication and enjoying the sport are the key concepts to his program.

Mackenzie’s coaching philosophy is to create an optimal learning environment based around mutual respect between the coach, the swimmer and the parents. He is a strong believer that if swimmers and families enjoy club based social/competitive events, a successful and positive club culture is achieved.

Matt Nguyen

Matt Nguyen (Coach Junior & Senior Squads - Centenary )

Matthew, a former swimmer himself, had transitioned to coaching whilst concurrently studying Bachelor of Exercise Physiology at university. He brings his knowledge of physiology to help our swimmers improve technique in the water and be effective in dry land work. Matt is also currently completing Strength & Conditioning Level 1 course.  Matt is passionate about helping young swimmers realise their potential and enjoy swimming.

Club nights at Centenary are about building team spirit – the focus is on enjoyment and connection with their team mates. There is a lot of opportunities for our swimmers to focus on times and racing during training and at the interclub meets, so whilst there will be racing at club nights we don’t want racing to be its sole focus. It will involve activities in and out of the pool including diving, relays and team challenges. The criteria for success is the smile on the swimmers faces as they leave. We look forward to your involvement and feedback on how we make it a great experience for all our swimmers regardless of their level.

Awards will be presented at the Christmas all Squad social in the first weekend of December. Award categories for Club Night Swimmers include:

Club Champions based on participation and involvement across the Club night program, – Improvement awards based on club and interclub meet performance,

Age Champions based on races at the Club Championships. We will also commence Centenary pool based records in 2017. This year all club events will be for Centenary Squads and held at the Centenary pool. 2017 Age Champions Criteria - Link
